From 4th to 7th November 2025, Rimini Expo Centre on the Italian coast will host the 28th edition of Ecomondo, an Italian Exhibition Group trade show and international benchmark for ecological transition. Seven themed areas, 30 halls, an agenda with over 200 events: the Romagna region’s Expo Centre will become an operational hub where exhibition, networking and advanced training integrate. We talked about it with Mauro Delle Fratte, Brand Manager Italian Exhibition Group.

Ecomondo 2025 promises to be a particularly comprehensive edition. What should we expect?

Ecomondo 2025 is a reference point for the entire ecosystem of ecological transition. With 166,000 square metres of exhibition space, over 30 halls and seven themed macro-areas, this edition will be the largest ever. It is a place where companies, institutions, research centres and international stakeholders discuss concrete solutions related to resource management, decarbonisation and the adoption of regenerative models.

What will the main topics of the exhibition be?

Waste management, with a focus on collection, treatment, transport and recovery, is still one of the cornerstones. Solutions for mechanical-biological treatment, advanced sorting, shredding and chemical or thermal technologies will be on display. Smart collection will be at the centre thanks to digital systems, sensor technology and fleet management. The SAL.VE area, which features vehicles for collection, sweeping and urban green management, will also be back, organized in cooperation with ANFIA,.

Recycling has always been one of Ecomondo’s key topics. How will it be addressed this year?

Recycling will cover all the main supply chains: plastic, paper, glass, metals and WEEE. This edition will include a focus on textile recycling with exhibitors and operators from circular fashion. Alongside these solutions, we will also be presenting plants for composting, anaerobic digestion and biogas, which are essential for integrated and regenerative agriculture.

Will water and environmental regeneration also be featured?

Of course. The Water Cycle & Blue Economy area will offer solutions for purification, desalination, wastewater reuse and water network management. In parallel, the Sites & Soil Restoration area will present technologies for contaminated site remediation, soil regeneration and environmental consolidation. Both are crucial for increasing ecosystem resilience and protecting natural resources.

What role does the bio-economy play today in the Ecomondo exhibition context?

A central one. The Circular and Regenerative Bio-Economy area focuses on green chemistry, bioplastics, bioproducts, industrial biotechnology and sustainable agricultural supply chains. The Bioenergy & Agriculture area, on the other hand, focuses on energy production from biomass, precision agriculture and anaerobic digestion processes. These are all essential for reducing the use of fossil resources and developing regenerative agro-industrial models.

And digital? What kind of solutions will visitors find?

The Environmental Monitoring and Earth Observation area will discuss digital twin, environmental AI, satellite data, advanced sensor technology and predictive models. These technologies enable companies and administrations to make real-time decisions based on reliable data. Digital is a transversal and enabling tool for every sector at Ecomondo.

Does support for innovation also come through start-ups?

Yes, the Innovation District will feature start-ups and young companies that are active in the circular economy. In addition to visibility and networking, we offer opportunities for market access and contact with investors, research centres and large companies. It is an area where the future of sustainable industry is being built, starting with new ideas and flexible models.

Ecomondo is an event with an increasingly greater international dimension. How is this aspect developing?

Delegations from all over the world will be in attendance with a special focus on Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Our conference programme will include events such as the Africa Green Growth Forum, where the Mattei Plan will be discussed as a platform for institutions and companies to work together for the sustainable development of the African continent through the circular and regenerative economy. We are convinced that accelerating sustainable sectors is the key to long-lasting economic and social development in Africa.
