Through its subsidiary, Sino French Water1, Suez has entered an agreement with Changshu Urban Construction2 and the Changshu Advanced Materials Industrial Park (CAMIP3) to set up a joint venture to treat the effluents from the Park. The company says this agreement consolidates Suez’s position in the industrial sector in China, where it already delivers its expertise in the management of environmental services to 10 industrial parks, including the SCIP4, the largest petrochemical complex in Asia.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sino French Water will hold a 24.5 percent stake in the newly created joint venture, Changshu Sino French5, with Changshu Urban Construction holding 25.5 percent and the CAMIP holding 50 percent. The contract should generate €354 million of revenue over the next 30 years. This collaboration provides for the construction of an extension of the industrial park's effluent treatment station. This second unit, which will come on stream early in 2017 and will have a capacity of 10,000 m3 per day, will double the capacity of the existing plant in order to cope with the growth of the industrial park. As a result of this agreement, Changshu Sino French will also be responsible for the management and operation of both units for 30 years. The station will treat effluents from the 55 industrial customers in the industrial complex and the 20,000 households in the growing Fushan residential zone. The CAMIP is an advanced fluorine chemistry park specialised in novel materials, fluorine chemistry, fine chemicals and biomed.
Marie-Ange Debon, Senior Executive Vice President in charge of the International Division of Suez, declared, "Suez has been successfully developing its activities in the Changshu region since 2006, with the support of local partners. Initially our collaboration covered the supply of drinking water to the 2.3 million inhabitants of Changshu city, but has gradually expanded to include wastewater treatment and the management of industrial water. Together with our partners, we hope to speed up the development of our activities while supporting the local authorities and industrial manufacturers to reach their environmental targets."
