The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Environment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to enhance cooperation in environmental conservation, according to a SPA report.
The memorandum seeks to establish a strategic partnership that will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two countries while strengthening joint efforts to address current environmental challenges.
According to the memorandum, both parties will collaborate on developing various environmental legislation and regulations. They will support initiatives to reduce all forms of environmental pollution, manage hazardous waste and chemicals, and enhance environmental monitoring, assessment, and information systems.
The two ministries will also work together to develop and implement policies and execution plans for a green economy. Their focus will include improving solid waste management and recycling in line with the principles of a circular economy, as well as enhancing environmental indicators.
Cooperation will extend to minimising the negative impacts of human activities on coastal and marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and integrated management of coastal and marine environments and natural reserves.
The memorandum's objectives also include fostering joint efforts in sustainable forest and rangeland management, adapting to climate change, rehabilitating degraded lands, and monitoring dust and sand storms to mitigate their adverse effects. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of environmental awareness, training, education, and media initiatives, along with supporting ecotourism to raise awareness and contribute to sustainable development.
