To mark World Environment Day, Waste & Recycling magazine in association with Intercare organised a Paper Collection Drive from June 3 to 24 at Wise Indian Academy Ajman. The campaign witnessed an enthusiastic participation with more than 2085 kg of old papers, books and notebooks collected by the students. The top three contributors were awarded prizes and gift vouchers during a ceremony on June 24.
Eng. Mohamad Awad, Sustainability Engineer, and Ali AlShehhi, Environmental Specialist at Ajman Municipality, graced the occasion as chief guests and presented the prizes to the winners. The prize winners were Hadi Hisham of Grade 6, who collected 114.8 kg of paper; Rena Easow Abraham of Grade 9, who collected 110 kg; and Riya Elson of Grade 12, who collected 84.5 kg.
Speaking at the event, Eng. Mohamad Awad encouraged the students to consider this initiative as the first step towards building lifelong practices of environmental responsibility and sustainability. Sunu Nair, General Manager, Media Fusion, urged the students to embrace recycling in their daily lives and inspire their parents and communities to follow suit, reminding them that they are the stewards of the environment.
The Principal, Madonna James, and Headmistress, Ramona D’Souza, shared that students from KG to Class 12 actively participated in the campaign, each playing their part in protecting the environment. They expressed their delight at seeing some students contribute multiple times during the campaign period.
