The Holy Makkah Municipality and the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) organised a waste management workshop on October 6 in preparation for the Hajj Season 1446 AH, according to a report on SPA.
The workshop focused on identifying key areas to improve in the environmental and municipal sectors. Thirteen main opportunities were highlighted, spanning the entire Hajj journey in Makkah City and the other holy sites.
These opportunities include mandating Hajj service providers to develop and implement operational waste management plans, create a comprehensive waste-reduction strategy, expand the capacity of warehouses, enhance the efficiency of waste compactor containers, and ensure site readiness before the Hajj season. Pilgrim service companies will be required to pick up waste for removal at designated times.
