Elixir United Investment LLC, part of the diversified Omani business house Al Jazeera International Group, has signed a deal with Polyeco Gulf LLC for the provision of hazardous waste management and marine pollution control services in Oman. Polyeco Gulf is the local subsidiary of Polyeco Group, an international company established in Greece, which specialises in hazardous waste management and marine pollution control services with operations in more than 12 countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa, as per a report in Muscat Daily. The agreement was signed by Sheikh Mohammed al Hashar, vice-chairman, Al Jazeera International Group and representatives of Polyeco Group including Athanasios Polychronopoulus, executive chairman, Polyeco Group - Greece and Dr. Lefteris Chalarakis, country manager – Oman, Polyeco Gulf. Polychronopoulus said the agreement opens up new opportunities and strengthens relations between the two companies in the delivery of services provided by Polyeco Gulf encompassing hazardous waste management and related services to the domestic market. Polyeco Gulf, which is in operation in Oman since 2015, is already providing hazardous waste management services to Orpic, Oman Gas Co, Ministry of Health, Sultan Qaboos University, and the College of Applied Sciences, as per the report. In January, the company won a contract to provide hazardous waste management services to Oman LNG for a three-year period, building on a contract awarded in 2015. Through its new partnership with Elixir United Investment, the company said it was also eager to invest in hazardous waste management facilities entailing the use of the latest technology to help establish a local industry specialised in hazardous waste processing and recycling with the ultimate goal of adding value to the local economy. Polychronopoulus added that his company is in discussion with Be’ah with regard to its plans for the development of national hazardous waste management facilities in the country.
