The second phase of the sewage treatment plant in Jebel Ali in Dubai, UAE, has been approved, according to emirates news agency WAM. The expansion, which will be undertaken at a cost of AED1.3 billion has been approved by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality.
The Director General of Dubai Municipality Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah said, “The Jebel Ali Plant is equipped with the advanced tools in the field of sewage treatment, and its final cost will touch AED2.849 billion, with a capacity of about 675,000 cubic metres per day instead of the current 300,000 cubic metres produced by the plant.” The expanded plant will serve around 1.35 million people, he stated.
The plant will not need further expansion until 2025, Eng. Lootah noted. “The plant is environmentally friendly and does not pollute the surrounding area, efficiently removes phosphate from water, and uses environmentally friendly methods to produce fertilisers,” he said.
