UAE suspends ferrous scrap and recovered paper exports for four months

The UAE has temporarily suspended exports of ferrous scrap and recovered paper starting 15 May, 2020 for a renewable period of 4 months, as per the document issued by the UAE ministry of economy.

The measure is aimed at strengthening the UAE domestic demand due to the economic uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the government directive. The ministry of economy in its order expressed its keenness to ensure business continuity and that manufacturers have sufficient feedstock necessary to continue their operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.   

The ferrous grades include major scrap grades with HS codes 720450, 720449, 720441, 720430, 720429, 720421, 720410.

Grades of paper scrap include 470790, 470730, 470720, 470710.
