BIR World Recycling Convention (Round-Table Sessions) 2017, New Delhi

In the upcoming BIR World Recycling Convention in New Delhi, an expert panel of guest speakers will provide insight into the present and future challenges of the global ferrous and non-ferrous metals business from an Indian perspective, according to the organisation. On October 15, the plenary session of the BIR Ferrous Division will feature a keynote presentation by Becky E. Hites from Steel-Insights LLC (USA). Becky Hites is a global steel industry professional and former Wall Street executive who has served as an equity analyst, project finance and mergers and acquisitions investment banker, cost-modelling expert, industry trend macro and micro consultant, expert witness and C-level strategic planning consultant. In 2012, she founded Steel-Insights LLC to provide highly specialised services to clients in the metals, mining and manufacturing industries. Becky will be giving a presentation entitled “Lions, Tigers & Elephants: harnessing the raw power of an improving global steel cycle”. The second guest speaker is R. Ganesh, Director-Sourcing, at Jindal Stainless (India), India’s largest stainless steel manufacturing group. In his present role, he is involved in strategic corporate planning and sourcing and security of raw materials. Ganesh is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He will be giving an in-depth assessment of the global specialty steel markets with a particular focus on India. The third speaker is Sunil Barthwal, Joint Secretary at the Indian Ministry of Steel. He has held various administrative positions in the areas of Revenue Management, Rural Development, District Administration, Energy & Power, Finance, Home Affairs, Transport, etc. in the State Government and in the Ministries of Labour and Mines in the Central Government. Prior to joining the Ministry of Steel, he was Resident Commissioner, Government of Bihar in Delhi. He will give an overview of the current and future developments in the steel industry with a focus on India, and share his views on the formation of a recycling policy for India, a process in which he is actively involved. The guest presentations in the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division will give a general economic overview of the global non-ferrous scrap market with a special focus on lead and aluminium, while presenting current and pertinent issues and challenges of interest to all delegates. During the plenary session to be held on October 16 in the Taj Diplomatic Enclave Hotel, three guest speakers will address the audience. Deepak Mahendra, former Managing Director of Chassis Brakes International, will be speaking on the current situation and the future of India’s fast growing automotive components industry. Chassis Brakes International is a multinational manufacturer of automotive brakes and brake components and one of the three largest brake system manufacturers in the world. He looks back at a long career in the automotive industry, spanning over 40 years. The second speaker, Navin Sharma, is Chief Executive Officer at Gravita India Limited. He is expected to share his knowledge of “India’s dominance in Secondary Lead” and provide a better understanding of the challenges ahead for the industry overall. The third speaker, Akshay Agarwal will focus on secondary aluminium production in India. He is the Executive Director at Century Metal Recycling (CMR), India’s largest producer of aluminium and zinc die-casting alloys with a combined annual capacity of over 218,000 MT. The group is currently operating through seven manufacturing plants. Agarwal will give a presentation on the “Secondary aluminium production in India, and its growing scrap appetite”. As part of the Asian continent, India is one of the fastest growing secondary aluminium markets in the world, with a big growth potential for automobile demand which is likely to boost aluminium consumption.
